Wow, that really is a full understanding (and love) of the breed!
My co-worker, who is a moron, buys puppies over the Internet when he gets a dog. His Crested is adorable and he does love her, but I keep slamming him for supporting puppy mills. His little Pandora has had a lot of health problems right away.
I have no idea why he had two Afghans, a mini-pin, and now Pandora. He named the mini-pin after a former co-worker who accused him of stalking her (which he did). When I suggested that naming the dog "Sarah" was creepy, he looked bewildered and said, "I just thought it was a nice name for a dog." Fortunately, Sarah is gone now, and he has Astro and Pandora. I know he loves them, but he is convinced his vet is just a money-grubber, and that his dogs do things to "get back at him." I continually give him my vet school health/behavior newsletters in the hope that he'll learn something.
Did I mention I work in mental health? Yeah.
Forum_browser fencing can be as simple or as elaborate as you want to make it...since your not trying to contain a herd of buffalo you dont need to go too eleborate unless you wanted to.
i personally have 4ft welded wire around the dog area of my back yard...
i bought a roll of welded wire (4ft is realy overkil if youll be supervising playtime but i also have my big boy sooo...) a bunch of t-posts (1 about every 8 ft will do it) i invested in a t-post setter because im on clay and they can be a pain to get in the ground, best $20 ive ever spent lol), some wire clips (but you could use any kind of metal ect to attatch the fencing to the posts, tposts have little nubbies on them but i found them useless...lol...and had the whole thing done in a few hours..., just me, no helping hands. its not the fanciest fence in the world and theres spots where its not under any real tension because i didnt have afence puller...but it keeps the dogs in so im happy lol (and being its a welded wire you cant realy "see" the fence unless your looking for it...it doesnt block the vew or anything (and i like to grow things up it )
if i can do it...anyone can lol.
Brightdog...shame to hear about your co-worker, he definatly sounds interesting...though given hes got a sighthound and cresties i wouldnt be too quick to say his dogs arnt doing some things "just to get back at him" lol, both breeds are sensitive and aloof, definatly the kind of breeds to look at you and go "why should i?" and flat out ignore you...
unforutnatly with cresties theres deifnatly a huge difference between well bred and not...and while many good breders advertise and sell online...it sounds like in this case he didnt do any homework...
even so the breed does tend to be fairly hardy if you ignore the skin teeth and eye issues lol.
I had to Google "welded wire" and look at images because I could not visualize it and I was afraid it would look like chain link or something, and if I put chain link up, I don't think I'd be the most popular neighborhood resident. I think the welded wire with wooden posts would be OK, though. If my husband agrees to the dog (and I think eventually he will), that will be my next project. It's good to know we can do it ourselves and it won't take forever.
thats my fence...it goes around back of the house too. i only put it up in October but eventually im hoping to have it covered with flowering vines.
there not "pretty" like a little picket fence or anything, but there also not as visually heavy or industrial as chainlink. if you go with the vinyle coated stuff thats green, it blends even better into the landscape and you realy barely see it...but even the silver stuff isnt visually "heavy" (and it keeps my 70lb puppy contained even when he decides to lean against it lol.
I like the look - and vines would make it even better. I could totally see that in my yard.
