I would hope not for the sake of the Sheba Inu!

I doubt it simply b/c a big part of Labs popularity is they are great family dogs.
I myself love Sheba Inu but they aren't for everyone :-)

they are independant, they are "cat like" they can be vocal, they can be INCREDIBLY standoff-ish with strangers, and typically difficult to train! they are NOTHING like labs, and will hopefully NEVER become as avaialbel as labs, labs have been practically destroyed by their populatiry, the ONLY dogs ive ever had personality issues with have been labs and goldens and its all due to bad breeding stemming from popularity...

Shibas are Hard to handle personality wise...and they need to STAY hard to find because in the wrong hands shibas make TERRIBLE pets.

as a side note, ive nver met an "outdoorsy" shiba...they are high energy playfull and like to go for a hike or run the agility course..but every shiba ive known has been NEUROTIC about getting thier feet wet or dirty and will spend hours sulking and cleaning their feet if they get dirty!
they also are highly prone to seperation anxiety...so while there happy to hike in the woods with you...leave them in the back yard for more than 5 mins and come back out to no dog, they are serious escape artists and ive known many scale solid 8 ft fences to go looking for thier owners.

Well they are pretty independant little dogs...not nearly as easily trained as a lab SHOULD BE.
Also labs have a good reputation as great around kids.
People are attracted to labs because labs are very people oriented...shebas are more like basenjis personality wise and that is a breed that never achieved huge popularity.

If a sheba happens to star in some box office smash hit though then all bets are off.

Wow this is an excellent overview of the typical Shiba Inu. I have a male Shiba. Love him to death, but he was a pain for about the first year. Still only listens when he wants to. The only difference from my dog to your overview is, my dog loves people. However, he is extremely standoffish when it comes to other dogs. My dog wanders around to the humans when we are at dog parks and loves to get petted by random strangers.
