Cute photo, but the answer is no. My dogs are not permitted to beg and they are never given food off of plates while people are eating. So, while the family is eating they are all lying down and waiting for the empty plate licking session which happens in the kitchen after dishes have been cleared.
My dogs can tell something weird is going on if I am really thoughtful. They poke and prod and ask. What are you thinking.....are you considering playing...come on - I know you want to play...don't be so serous...bark bark bark.
👀 Actually, that's four vacuum's ready to clean up ANY mess left behind. No begging required! (HA!)
(Thing is, the closest and fastest one...gets to clean up the mess, the other three are for back up and moral support!) 😜 😜 💜
You took the words right out of my mouth. Lighten up, guys! As long as a dog is sitting politely, what's wrong them watching?
Well I would make the little one sit farther away.

True, but I find that letting a dog beg is like letting your enemy not step over the line, but on the line. Obviously, the analogy with an enemy isn't the best, but they do react without thought when they're so close to something good sometimes. It's also a habit that could make guests uncomfortable during meals. Just my experience.
My dogs don't beg. They sit while we're eating. They never paw at us or nudge us. They wait politely and are rewarded with a small bite when we're done.
