I'm worried about my dog Moe. He has been drinking too much lately and has started having accidents in the house.

I just noticed this behavior in the past week. He drinks twice as long as any of the other dogs (I have six total).

After reading up on this there are three or four possible reasons:
1) Kidney failure
2) Diabetes
3) Cushings
4) Intestinal blockage (Doubtful since he is not vomiting)

He is showing no other symptoms. I have a vet appointment tomorrow however I am worried. I would hate to lose my little Pal, he's a good dog.

He is nine years old, he is a mutt. His mother is an American Eskimo/Beagle mix(mix) and his father is a beagle mix. His mother is still alive at 12 years old and surprisingly enough his father is too (at 19 years old). Both his parents live here

The maternal "grandmother" of Moe died of Kidney failure and I'm worried he may have it too.

I know what it's like to be afraid of symptoms that are associated with scary stuff.

Hopefully it's something easily managed!

Let us know what the vet says!

Years ago Dash was drinking more and started having accidents in the house turned out he had a bladder stone. He had surgery to remove it and that was the end of both issues. We will keep our paws crossed here for your dog in hopes it is nothing too serious.

the good news is that most of the thigns it could be are easily managed with medication and do NOT mean the dogs life has to be cut short because of it...
given his age my first bet would be diabetes.

please keep us updated.

I agree with Dash and Foxy. (To me it sounds like diabetes) but I'd rather the vet do a check up and find the real problem. Moe may live as long as his dad (paws crossed). You are doing the right thing by going to the vet tomorrow!

Keep us informed and keeping our paws crossed!

My experience with the other dog dying of kidney failure makes me believe this may not be kidney problems. Angel first showed signs by throwing up. I did not notice a marked increase in drinking with her or bathroom problems. She also slowed down her eating which Moe hasn't done.

Moe has diabetes and I have decided to try to manage it. He will require two insulin shots a day and the insulin will run me 90 dollars every two months.
