A new leather leash arrived today from Amazon. My husband left the package on the kitchen counter top. I came home two hours later. The leash is gone. Only the metal part left. I suspect my 80 poundfemale GSD ate it and I pumped 8cc 3% h2o2 into her. So far, 15 min passed, no vomit. She pooped twice, solid, small amount each time. What should I do?
She is doing fine, like nothing has happened. According to what I read, I should have given her more 3% h2o2 (40cc). But I don't have gut to do it. I will just take her to vet.
The leather *could* cause problems if it balls up and gets impacted. Yes leather will digest but that is a lot at one time particularly if it was not chewed up well. And you don't know. Dogs often get impacted from rawhides.
I would call the vet. If there is stitching or rivets that could cause problems Watch her. and if it starts to come out intact do NOT pull on it to help it come out no matter how tempted**. If she gets "off" and is not eating and pooping - my dog - an 80lb GSD would be at the doggie ER being x-rayed ASAP.
Call the doggie ER if after hours they may give advice to give some "bulking foods" like bread to help keep things moving on out.
**You can fold the intestines in on themselves if you pull. I once had a GSD swallow an entire sock and it came out entirely unchewed up and was stretched out to about 18 inches when it came out. They are not nessesarily good at chewing things up sometimes.
Thanks. She vomited a pile of leash pieces on the way to emergency vet office. The leash was cut around 2 inches per piece, very precise. She is acting fine. We had her vet do blood work anyway to see whether it is purely behavior issue.
