I just starting trying to massage our dogs! lol! I'm not sure how well it works or if they even like it or not though! I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing! I just started doing it because Brooklyn was getting so worked up about not being able to get to Jayda while she was in heat. He would shake so bad that he would throw up! Anyway, one day when I finally got him to get on the sofa and sit still I decided to try to massage him to see if that would help relax him some, and it did really seem to help. He stopped panting and shaking and he laid down and closed his eyes! I know how to give facials, I'm a licensed Esthetician (Skin care specialist), but I don't know much about massaging anything besides someones face! lol! Though I do give my husband massages a few times a week. I just did the same kind of thing with Brooklyn as I do for my husband and Brooklyn really seemed to like it!

Actually, yeah he does! lol! Oh well though, he can get over it! How many wives massage their husbands for 30-45 minutes a day 3 or 4 times a week, if not more!?

For any of you who would like to learn how to do a canine massage, here is a link. They will send you the DVD for $50, or you can do a home study course w/ certification for $600 (I think). Product Specifics

Thanks! I'll check it out!

I just noticed that your thing says that you live in west central Florida. I just thought it was funny, mine says I live in east central Florida. I use to have the city we lived in, but first of all, I hate where we live right now, and second, I just didn't want everyone knowing exactly where we live, you know?

Used to worry about my GR getting a bad hip when running. I waited until he was about 1 yr old. Used to run 3-4 miles.

I have an 80 lbs pit/shepherd mix. My dog is male and neutered. I feed him twice a day dry dog food with water mixed in. I ride a bike 1.5 miles with my dog jogging next to me to some trails. then let him off leash and hike 5 miles (2.5 up 1500 ft elevation, and back) then I ride slow 1.5 miles back home on my bike with my dog jogging slower this time. I give him water at the halfway point and let him rest for about 15 minutes. We do this most days. So he gets about 8 miles a day of jogging/walking. He is always amped to go and sprints in the beginning so I think that he must not be sore and enjoys this length of exercise. How much/when he eats, as well as the temperature though do play a role in how amped he is during the whole thing though...He definitely prefers it when it is cooler out. [mod] no ads allowed [/mod]

Due to bones and joints, our vet who is a runner told us to wait to start jogging our dogs until they were over one year old. We were allowed to jog our dogs up to under one mile prior to turning 1 y/o. From there you slowly build up endurance to prevent injury to your dog. We have always allowed our dogs to dictate water/bathroom breaks for rest. Also, depending on where you live and the type of coat your dog has depends on the temperature. I could never run my aussie mix who is double coated in 80 degree weather because she would get hot fast. Dogs can only sweat through their tongues and paw pads, so try to provide water breaks. Plus, living in Oklahoma we always watch the humidity levels. Our aussie mix would jog up to 6 miles with me in her prime. If you can, it's always much better to jog with your dog on soft surfaces like grass verses asphalt or concrete.
