Our 16 1/2 yr. old mini-poodle just started doing this every so often if I don't pick it up right away! I thought maybe it was an "old dog" thing. His appetite is normal and he eats twice a day. He's blind and nearly deaf, but he can smell what he's eating, so not sure what the appeal is.

Dogs like different smells than we do. They often don't like perfumey smells, but dead fish for example? Heavenly!!

Also, there's a natural basis for them not finding poop disgusting. A mother dog will keep her puppies' area clean by eating their poop.

My dog kind of tried to (eat his own pooh) back when he was a puppy, but never since then.

Of my six dogs none have ever shown any interest in eating dog poop. They do have an interest in cat poop for some reason though......

My dogs did that, especially if it was frozen, they would pick it up and fling it around the yard then go chase it. Sometimes they even ate it.
Mostly it was my husky, the other ones only tried it a few times.

My dog ate her stuff when she was a puppy and doesn't touch it as an adult. However, she loves snacking on our other dog's poop. She came to us when our first dog was 8 years old.

Mine ate cat poop too, it's because there is undigested food that passes through the cat, mostly from canned cat food.
