I guess it is better than leaving the dog in the woods on on the side of the road but couldn't he have been a real man and registered or given his name? This is exactly the kind of man who will complain about taxes and government interferance in his life--except when he needs services paid for by taxpayers.
Sad to say but in this region - Southwest VA - hounds of all types are a penny a dozen and I would venture to guess that the number of them put down in county pounds is very high. It's very hard to find rescue groups in other areas that want them, especially after they are past the cute puppy stage, and so often we have to pass on pulling them from our pound since we can't find local or long distance homes for them.
Those we do take in to foster care can take ages to place - I had a treeing walker hound with the sweetest personality and she was with me for months and months but did finally get a local home and I've learned that she is spoiled rotten and absolutely loved. She had given birth to 8 pups shortly before we took her in and all but one of them did find a home. The last one is still with us and he'll be two years old in a couple of months.
The one in the video is now in foster care, most likely with Tazewell Animal Rescue Coalition and as a result of this video going viral will find a great home. Wish I could say the same for the many that are dumped year year, especially at the end of hunting season.
Poor little dog...after the guy yanked him out of the truck, the poor thing just stood there with his tail between his legs, looking scared.
I've seen this video posted on Facebook and several other places. Someone will step up to adopt that poor little guy and give him a better life. I'd like to see his owner punished, though. Wonder if they can track his license plate from the video.
I did a little follow up research on this and the dog is being fostered and most likely will be adopted by the head of Tazewell Animal Rescue Coalition. It turns out the guy who tied up the dog was not the owner, it was a stray he found on the road and could not take home since he has some pets of his own who are well taken care of according to the sheriff's office and so he will not be charged with anything.
He took the dog to the vets office and although it was closed most likely a staff person would have come in to feed and check on all the animals at the clinic even though it was a Sunday.
He needs to be hit. Hard. With a chair. That is on fire.
