Sigh, several stores visited and the only fish I could find for the dogs was all labeled "Product of China".
I love my dogs but they are not getting imported farmed salmon from Norway at $17 a pound.
I like for my dogs to get fish in their dietary rotation, but the expensive salmon is out of the question and my dogs don't eat food from China. That leaves zero options except to remove fish from the doggy diet.
.........Surely that brilliant Wyatt McRiot can learn to fish.
He has no fear of icy water. He'll push the ice out of his way. He'd probably learn to fish. If I could point to the fish and tell him to fetch it up and bring it to me, he'd try.
I live in dread of Wyatt finding out how easy it is to open the refrigerator.
I enjoyed the video, but have to give a warning to those of you with dogs in the Pacific Northwest. Local salmon carry the organism for salmon fever and it can kill your dog within hours. Literally within hours. It is a full lights and siren emergency run to the vets if they show any symptoms and have had even the slightest possible exposure to raw salmon.
Do not allow your dogs to chase salmon, or eat any fish from the riverside. Never feed them raw salmon.
I'm sure I speak for many of us here when I say that we all want to continue to read of Wacky Wyatt's adventures for many years to come so I guess this means you'll just have to limit his fishing to day trips on one of those deep sea fishing boats.
You can buy fish oil in capsule form.
I would think that would give the dog the same benefit that it was getting from the fish you were giving it.
Just a thought.
I give my dog (Izzy) canned sardines every so often. It's about $1.29 / tin here, and I buy the ones that have no salt added...only ingredients are sardines and spring water. The product itself is from Poland (who knew? it says 'packed in New Brunswick' on the label) but it's a cheap alternative to pricier salmon. (But whenever I buy some salmon for myself for dinner, Izzy always gets a share too.)
