I had the honor of taking some photos of her for the rescue's website. Would you say she's a purebred GSD or a mix? She's just under a year old and about 50 lbs.

Curious to hear your thoughts!

I am no authority by any means and not familiar with GSD's but I will say she's beautiful and I love her markings. IMHO, purebred.

Purebred or very close I wouldn't worry about it.

What a beaut! I'd say purebred. There's nothing about her that looks like anything other than GSD, IMO.

Purebred American type...not the German bred....American GS isn't an official name,
I don't think.
The German bred have these big heads and can be 150 pounds, beauties, too.
Their rear slopes down a bit more I find. Then you have these, haha...long legged, and skinny.

A beauty...good luck with weight gain...I feed mine 3 times a day and mix in a bit of white rice
with her wet food along with her dry...
she MAY be 62 pounds up from 60! Took 3 months!

I'm going with purebred as well, but I'm no expert either. I don't think it matters though. I do think GSDs have the two types within the breed as Great Danes do: the American type and the German type. The German type is the thicker and heavier boned, and the American type is longer and lankier. I'm a fan of the long and skinny American type myself.

Oh, those ears are just begging to be scratched! She look like a full GSD to me, hope she gets a good home soon. Great picture!

The European breeders are trying to get a dog that has a couching rear appearance. I call it the roach back look. North American breeders are looking for a square back, and a lighter weight dog.

If you want to see some really athletic dogs, look for a Schuzthund competition in your area. It is the Canine version of the Olympic Games, involving long distance running, jumping, and climbing, plus protection of a suitcase against a thief, protection of the handler against an attacker, tracking a scent, and no voice hand commands at a distance. The last event is the bite, to see if the dog has the stamina to still be effective after a long day of hard work.

A dog that has a level three ranking in Shutzhund, is worth thousands of dollars, as a breed source.

What a gorgeous dog! The only way to know if she is pure GSD is to get a breed DNA test at Dog DNA Test, Dog Breed Test - Wisdom Panel Canine DNA Testing | Wisdom Panel Not that it matters, though, but sometimes curiosity just gets to you and you have to know. We did them on our two dogs who are clearly mixes.
