Rescues can only judge the dog in front of them. They know nothing of the family history of the dog.
Was the sire a nice dog, or did he eat children? How about mom... did she have any health issues? Grandparents? etc.
There are many "breeders" out there who couldn't tell you diddly-squat about the family history of the dogs they are selling either. Many out there think "my dog is good, let's find a male to mate her with and we'll have lots of puppies to sell!"
The bottom line is THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES. With any dog. Be it from a good breeder or a rescue. There may be statistical and historic data to back up some things, but there is no way to know for sure what a puppy will become.
I have owned a poodle and two labs, so I must say that like both breeds.
BUT, breed them together and I have yet to see an intelligent, calm, well behaved, labradoodle or goldendoodle.
The five I have interacted with all appeared to be missing a few brain cells. They are all large hyper dogs that won't settle and relax, are very difficult to discipline, they pace about from one place to another inside, or while outside, they keep throwing dirty slimey balls into my lap.
How can I say this without ticking some off. Doodles? May it be a goldendoodle or a labradoodle, WOW! Most that breed them (not all) don't care about genetics. I saw so many goldendoodles that were just crazy. I kid you not. These dogs were unbelievable. I was in WI.
When I was growing up, it was called a mutt. Now it is called a designer dog. No matter what it is, dogs have been with me my whole life. I wouldn't have it any other way (purebred or mutt).
