Looking for recommendations for a doggie seat belt harness for our lab mix to wear in the car. Want one that is comfortable, allows him to lie down, but is pretty easy to put on and take off.

I've heard lots of good things about this company.

USA K9 Outfitters - Auto, SUV, and Truck Safety Gear

I'm thinking about getting one for the transports I do. I wish I could offer some personal backing for them but they look very durable and like I said, they've gotten good reviews on different dog forums.

If I were going to do a harness, I'd do one of the Sleepypods: Dog Car Harnesses & Seat Belts Archives - Mighty Mite Dog Gear

Personally I think harnesses are more trouble then they're worth. I went with a Variocage: Variocage Archives - Mighty Mite Dog Gear

Ditto. Love my Variocage. But that cost is not for everyone. I would also go for the crash-tested Sleepypod or the crash-tested Allsafe if I had to use a restraint harness.

Be VERY careful about harnesses. Most do not perform well. Car Restraints for Dogs - Whole Dog Journal Article

The sleepypod looks excellent. I bought a basic harness with one tether attached for a new, young, excitable dog a few years ago. I used it only once. I looked around after we'd been on the road for a little while, and her turning around and around had wrapped the tether around her leg. It would have broken her leg in a million pieces in a crash, and who knows what else would have happened. The tether couldn't be put on any shorter, and I gave up.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I will check out the links provided. Reading the above comment I would be concerned about how the harnesses are constructed and would not want to purchase one with out inspecting it first to see how it works.

Crash tested is your best recommendation and much more reliable an evaluation tool than a personal inspection. There are things we consumers...even the most savvy and analytical of us...cannot possibly anticipate/evaluate by inspecting a restraint harness. They cost more but way less than the vet visit an unproven restraint harness can result in. Just some food for your thought.

RuffRider.com | ROADIE DOG CAR HARNESS - "YOUR BEST FRIEND'S SAFETY RIDES ON IT" are my faves form experience.

the sleepypod brand don't fit certain shaped dogs (particularly very wide of very narrow chested dogs)

Allsafe Pet Harness | Summit Agility Equipment is crash tested and should fit most large breed dogs.

FYI, for anyone considering this harness, I bought this harness for my 50-lb. Aussie mix. I bought a medium, and it was WAY too big. Returned it for a refund.
