I have to start buying it for Luna next month...where do you guys get yours and what sort of prices do you pay? I don't have a clue about this. I never realized she has to be on something every month...(as well as flea stuff soon..)

Any advice on reasonably priced meds?

I get mine from PetsuppliesNet.Com

I have been using this supplier for years and have never had a problem. My vet says he will match any price I can get online, but he always balks when he sees these prices.

Afterthought:

I use Revolution. It is an all in one heartworm/flea combo. It appears expensive until you combine 2 other meds to get the same coverage.

Online is cheaper but I can't remember where exactly I ordered them for, would try googling and then pricing. Did have to get a prescription from the vet first though, I think they charged $5 but it still was a savings, rather than going local. If I hear of any good prices, will post them but it's still a bit early in my area.

i get the vet to call it into dr foster, I also order the frontline there. you can check
the web site for prices. healthy pets.com I have also order front line from. you can then either get the 12 pillls or do 6 then get the next 6 if your budget is tight.

Other choices for heartworm meds are iverheart, sentinel, heartgard plus, or advantage multi. The Multi also does fleas (I think...it's either fleas or ticks, and fleas makes more sense) Frontline plus is a choice of flea prevention.

My only advice is this, if you buy from an online pharmacy and not directly from your vet, the manufacturer no longer guarantees the product because they don't know where it came from or how it was handled. This tidbit comes in handy because if somehow your dog ends up with heartworms, the manufacturer will pay for the treatment if you are using a guaranteed product. Treatment of heartworms is very expensive.

You may want to check with your vet, we price match the online pharmacies because we really want our clients to use the guaranteed products.

Also please remember to have Luna checked yearly for heartworms - it CAN happen, even on meds.

I have a passle of dogs so I use an Australian pharmacy because it is a lot cheaper - the ingredients are the same (husband is a pharmacist and did a comparison for me) - no Rx is required, but we still have the heartworm check run every year when we have their shots. We're in the south and HW are horrible here.

The Aussie site is: Save $$ on Heartgard® (http://www.petshed.com/products/category346.asp - broken link)

I bought flea/tick meds just recently from a stateside company, Amy's Animal Ark, and was very pleased with their prices. I hooked up with them through Amazon.

The best price is at Dr. Foster;s and Smith.....Have your Vet write a script and mail it in. Call them first for information.
