You mentioned having 2 Great Danes, right? Reminds me of the two danes in an old movie from the 30's; they were named "Off the Rug" and "You Too". Danes are very sweet lap dogs or at least the ones I've known think they are lap dogs.

Yes indeed. One of them will be 7 in a couple of months. Other than an arthritic shoulder, she still acts like the low key puppy she was years ago

How about a rescue mut. The breed is irrelevant. The dog is going to be what you make it, not the breed. Considering you're 65, I'd suggest a dog of about 30 lbs or less. If it gets sick, you might have to pick it up to take it to the vet. I doubt a 65 year old woman's ability to pick up and carry a big dog. A rescue dog will be looking for that someone special to care for it as much as it wants to care for you. No big money to own either and no breed bad habits. The best dogs I've been fortunate to have as friends were from rescue. Some of the absolute best were dogs that came back as trouble dogs to the rescue kennel. It's all about spending time with them and treating them like family. With any dog, there's going to be the acclimation period where the dog starts to understand what you expect from it. Usually it takes 90 days for the transition to take place.
