Or you don't need to necessarily crate your dog, but when you're out of the house, do you leave the TV, radio, or some other device on to make the home have some background or white noise for your pet?

I used to do that for our first dog, and now that I'm crate training our new puppy, I leave the TV on like a news channel or HGTV that has constant but level talking (nothing to hyper) or even kids cartoon, because my pup doesn't seem to like the classical music like our first dog did.

Our pup seems so uptight and just shakes when we take him out of the crate, trying to limit him to not be there more than three hours but it's hard sometimes when both my wife and I are working. Sometimes I wish I could have gotten him a sibling or playmate to keep him company but can't afford the care for more than one dog at a time.

I turn on the TV anytime it will be longer than a couple hours (he is almost 4 months), but not at night (I let him out at 2am and return to crate).

BUT, there are two adult dogs loose in the house, so he has some company.

Not usually but I have two dogs. IMO it's a good idea if you just have one dog and especially with a puppy.

Wow, at 4 months old you still let him out at 2am? I got something to look forward to, lol. How does he react when he has to go back into the crate?

He is fine returning to his crate, sometimes I have to give him the "go home" but most of the time he staggers back in of his own volition.

He can make it through the night, but it seems to put a strain on him so I get up that one time. I don't work, so it's no biggie.

I leave the TV or the radio playing at a low volume for my dog.

As far as I can tell, dogs have no interest in the TV or radio.

Yes, I play the radio for my dogs. My one dog is noise and thunder-phobic, so I play the local classical music station during the day. Studies have shown that classical music has a calming effect on dogs, and also even though it is on low, it drowns out extraneous noise from the street that he might react to.

Mine likes animal videos on the computer. Maybe she'd like an animal show on.

She gets worried when cats and puppies are in distress. She walks up here and plays close attention to them.

Maybe yours don't but I have one that does and one from before that took interest in the intro to TV show, Y&R. They have free reign upstairs and basement area.
