"Even in Boulder, there are some things that just aren't cool.
Like coloring your poodle pink with beet juice to raise awareness of breast cancer."

Boulder says no to pink poodle - The Denver Post

So I'm guessing these people woud really freak if they saw the winners in the Fantasy categories at national grooming competitions, where the dense coats of Standard Poodles are "carved" into theme shapes and then colored to accent the shapes?

I never thought about beet juice. I use Kool-Aid (always unsweetend unless you want to attract ants!) to color my light-colored llamas for parades and other events (my Poodles are black so you have to use a spray-on color for them). I imagine some dogs might be offended by being colored -- my border collie probably would have been -- but the Poodles and llamas don't care what you do, just so everyone pays attention to THEM!

Jeez, get a life, people!

I see no problem with this woman coloring her poodle as long as she's not doing it with anything harmful to the pet. Beet juice? Koolaid? Gimme a break, Boulder! Go find real criminals...

Just my 2c:
If the lady is doing it to advertise her own salon and not for breast cancer awareness as she claims, would it make you think differently? Some posters here think so- Boulder woman ticketed for dyeing poodle pink : County News : Boulder Daily Camera (http://www.dailycamera.com/news/2008/mar/10/boulders-pink-poodle-owner-ticketed/ - broken link)

Quote-
"Lisa Pedersen, chief executive officer of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the city's Animal Control and Care, said officers received "several calls about the animal" before they wrote the ticket.

"There were lots of people concerned about the dog," Pedersen said Monday. "And we have given more than one verbal warning, so we thought it would just be best to write the ticket and let it resolve itself in the court system.""

Nope. She's not harming the animal with chemicals. It's no different than putting silly clothes or hairbows on your pet, or cutting their fur into designs.

Stupid, may not like poodles myself but this is her choice doing for a cause and not hurting dog at all and her own pet not like did to someone elses.
Now if just the Easter thing and not using something that is not harmful could see that.
