Happened less than 2 weeks ago. Had an MRI and X-rays and were giving her medication and as much confinement as possible. She's come a long way since her first episode. She's so much better but she cannot get comfortable and sleep. She's up what seems like all night every night. And taking very short cat naps if you can even call them that. My question is...It's hard to watch her go thru this. She's on 3 medications for pain and inflammation but I'd love some ideas on how to give her some relief so she can get some rest. She will be walking around the house or yard and lay down, try and close her eyes but within 30 seconds, no more than a minute she's is back on her feet pacing again. Is there some medication or an alternative approach to help her get some extended sleep. It's very difficult watching her all day and night go thru this. Please help if you can.

Ask your vet. Sorry, but your dog's health is too important to trust to strangers on the internet concerning medication matters. Some — maybe most — of the advice given in this forum concerning meds is seriously bad. She's on three meds already, so you need to be careful about negative interactions, which means you should be three times as careful. I'd trust anything Oregonwoodsmoke and Parnassia have to say over anyone else here. Sorry you're going through this.

Please call your vet ASAP. She may need more or additional pain medication. Being unable to settle and pacing are signs of pain and disc disease is very painful. I'm guessing if her pain is managed she will be able to settle and sleep.

Please don't wait and call the vet now.

Thank you all. Took her in today and they gave her some new meds as she started scratching just under her eye till it bled. Attempted to put a cone on her but she was too violent. But he gave her new meds and she's been finally sleeping and relaxing tonight and yet to see any more scratching after returning from the vet. Which is run by my stepdaughter incidently. Tomorrows a new day. Hopefully, we see some continued change. Guess the scratching under her eye was a direct result of the original meds but not 100% sure.
