the algae bloom is a dangerous toxin to your pet . Please don't let your dog swim in ponds this time of year . It has killed 4 dogs in our area already and I wanted to put this out to people who have maybe never heard of this before . Please take warning and care .

Thanks I was going to post this same thing as I have read of several dogs that have died within an hour of having been in the water as some of the neurotoxins the algae can produce are that fast acting and lethal. So many places have had record highs that it has become threat in many places and does not have to be fresh water as salt water and coastal estuaries can be an issue too. So just take care if your dogs are cooling off with some swimming or even wading.

Just saw this on the news. Sad. Hopefully, signs will be posted at these locations as well.

Unfortunately it is on the increase....I lived in Florida for 15 year up until 2018 and every year it seemed to get worse. Unfortunately people studying it haven't completely determined what causes it, but most agree that man-made fertilizers and the runoff into ponds and tributaries probably contribute - whether it is 5% of the cause or 95% of the cause seems to be open to debate.
