Authorities in Utah came to the rescue of a 190-pound dog that suffered from exhaustion during a hike in the Salt Lake City area.

The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office Search and Rescue Team said 3-year-old Floyd the mastiff was hiking the Grandeur Peak trail Sunday with his owner when he became too exhausted to descend the trail.

I'm glad the dog is OK.

I also hope the owner has to pay the cost of the rescue. Seriously, getting Rescue out for a heat exhausted dog that should not have been marched so far into the wilderness when he wasn't fit to do the hike? Bad owner, bad judgment, really bad use of a resource that is needed for other things.

And a big thank you for the rescue team.

The owner apparently did not intend to go far. He got off the trail and got lost.

A heart-warming story; especially since that had to be a difficult trek; carrying the huge dog on a litter. I'm glad they had the right equipment, as well as the determination to help the dog.

Thats one big dog.
Good for the rescue team!

I had to carry one of my dogs (Rottie) across the front of my saddle on the last leg of a trail ride. Poor thing just didn't have any energy left.

Some dogs are just not meant to be hiking.
