My dog is very sweet - pug-Dachshund mix. She is very gentle with people of all ages, loves my husband and me and kisses us to death. However, the second time I tried to put on her thundershirt, she wheeled around and tried to bite me; the next time, she threatened to bite me when I just held the shirt. However, she let my husband put it on while I gave her her favorite treat. that happened twice, the third time, she threatened to bite him, he let go but she went after him and bit him in his hand. Unfortunately, she caught a vein so that he bled profusely. What should we do? - We travel by car and it keeps her from getting sick.
Have you ever seen how a vet technician holds a dog so the vet can do something to the dog without it wiggling away or biting?
One of you, the strongest and strongest willed can hold the dog like that restricting him close to your body while the other one puts the shirt on from behind. Probably best not to let the dog see you coming at him with the shirt. Once you get the shirt on praise the dog.
Definitely, you should be sternly correcting the dog for biting. And, I wouldn't give treats esp before putting a carsick prone dog in the car.
Sometimes puppies or young dogs outgrow carsickness. Alternatively, if this is only a problem for long distance travel talk to you vet about using Dramamine instead of the thundershirt.
The shirt could be too tight uncomfortable cutting into the dog. I throw the dang thing away myself.
