So do you guys not let dogs bite each other when playing? Just curious.
My dog plays with another dog a lot at the dog park and they bite each other (okay, mostly mine biting him), but I thought that's just how they play. Neither has yelped before so I haven't thought too much of it.
Biting another dog (adult) is not the same as biting a human. There is quiet a difference.
They yelp when they're puppies, as far as full grown dog biting a human, there is a big issue with training. Dog should know the difference between another dog and human.
I use the OUCH!!! NO BITE command with ALL our dogs. We have an 18 month old male rottie and a 5 month old female rottie that we adopted from the shelter about 2 months ago. The male doesnt bite on purpose, but when he gets a little to excited with us, he clearly understands that command and responds well to it.
The little one is teething, so we give her the command, then give her a chew toy. She is very dominant, and will also bite our older dogs during rough play.
When she was younger, he would grab her muzzle and close it, then quickly let go. (The same thing a mother does to quiet her pups)
This worked for a while, but I find the verbal commands are more effective now.
Dogs will bite each other during play. Watch their body language. Are they doing the signature "play bow" with butt in the air and forelegs on the ground?
Is the other dog baring its teeth and growling? Puppies will do this during play, but if the other dog is an adult and is curling his upper lip to show teeth, he's not fooling around.
