My little JRT started limping slightly two days ago. Today I noticed a small hole in one of his pads. Unfortunately it looks like the 'splinter' has worked its way down into the paw and a small, soft lump has formed on the side in the soft tissue, almost like a zit. It looks like the object is trying to push its way out through the lump. I am going to soak the paw in salt water to see if that helps draw the object out.
Does anyone have any other ideas on how I can get this 'splinter' out of his paw?
Thanks!
** He will be going to the vet next week if it doesn't improve.
Try frequent warm compresses inbetween the soaking. It will eventually work its way out so if the redness and swelling remains localized to the zit-sized spot you can probably keep trying this approach. If the entire paw or pad is swollen and hot, he needs to be seen by his vet as soon as possible.
Interesting! Is it only the black electrical tape, or do you think duct tape would do it too?
Sure duct tape would also. Just a old trick we used and cheaper than band aids but the darkness and glue help draw. My dad had a spot on leg he had cut-off always get like a ingrown hair they would lance. He tried the electrical tape it dissappeared never came back.
My kids all use for slivers and thistles/thorns they get and works.
Electrical tape?? How does this work?? I would recommend drawing salve, then tape over it.
We always just use the tape.If have a drawing salve great. Cuts heal faster with tape also and draws infection. Of course we always clean area before putting tape on though.
