I love the Furminator, available at most pet stores in 3 sizes. Once a day that that thing and nobody sheds.

Shave it.
I shaved my dog three times a year, starting in late spring, on through late summer. Saved tons of cleaning time and she didn't mind one bit!

NEVER, EVER shave your pug!!! PLEASE don't do it!!!! They need that coat and the undercoat!!!

This is part and parcel of owning a pug. Get a shedding blade and get the extra fur out. This is why it's SO important to do research on the breed in which you're interested.

I have a pug. He sheds. I knew before I got him that all pugs shed. It's part of owning a pug. But NEVER, EVER shave your pug!!! The undercoat is an insulation and it's absolutely necessary!!!! It's insulation from the sun and from the cold!

There are a few breeds that don't shed. Other than that, keep it groomed and either get a great vacuum or get hardwood floors and sweep each day. With a PUG you could probably get a roomba. I have German Shepherds [aka German Shedders] - they would give a Roomba a heart-attack. I have grown accustomed to tumbleweeds of dog hair wafting across the floor at embarrasing moments.

I live in an area where the temperature outside is 60-80 degrees year round Would that make a difference?

It also ruins the coat. Shedding can be reduced by feeding a decent food. However Pugs tend to shed year-round, more so than Labs

NO!!! It gets tremendously hot in NYC in the summer (90s, easily!) but I would NEVER shave my pug!!!! It really does ruin the coat and it's needed to distributed the necessary oils from the sebaceous glands....Learn to love the shed hair, like most pug owners do!!!

I appreciate all the input. I do agree on reasearching the breed. I love my pug, but I probably wouldn't get another one. Well, I shouldn't say that. It's just not a breed, maintenance wise, I'd choose while having young children. Time devoted to anything gets stretched thin. I have hardfloors, so that makes cleaning easier. His diet is good, the food is quality. I've heard about fish oil. Any opinions on that?
