My pointer/lab/possibly border collie is shedding again. Bleh...I can't keep up with it. Our black clothes are flecked with white hairs!!

I try to vacuum and brush her every day.

How do you guys handle shedding (if you have to?). I do like the rubber glove trick (dishwashing gloves) to get the hair off the couch & dog.

Furminator! bought at any pet store and very easy to use, just stroke with the hair.

For your type of dog, a Furminator would work wonders!

However, you can't use a Furminator on double-coated dogs, as it rips out the undercoat. Both of my dogs are breeds that "blow coat" (meaning little puffs of hair fall off rather than a constant shed like a short-haired dog would). We brush daily with a slicker followed by pin brush, and vacuum/pick up the hair bits by hand. FUN! It's actually less work than it sounds... I prefer it to my friend's pug, for sure. Her couches are just covered no matter what she does.

Shedding blades are FABULOUS - but do it outside so you don't fill your house with shed fur!

I second the shedding blade...looks like an instrument of torture, but the dogs love it. And so do the birds! Every year we find loads of nests that have been built with the help of some "Golden" hair! (yes, doing it outside is a must!)

My favorite is the undercoat rake - my experience with the furminator is it pulls out more dead topcoat than undercoat for my double coated dogs and the teeth of the rake are rounded and not hard on the skin.

Ok Ladies I am so embarresed to say this but I used a wide comb from the dollar store. It works great. I have a 9 month old baby crawler and is constantly picking up crumbs and dog fur and puts in her mouth. This comb does a fantastic job getting undercoat out. Make sure you have a trash bag next to you. I could brush her for hours a day but I don't have the time so I have to brush her at least two or three days until she stops shedding. I vaccuum every morning but my crumb snatcher seems to find something

Furminator for the dog and this for the couch. It is by far the greatest invention ever and even the Dyson attachments don't come close to this.

i use a curry comb on bailey..... she has the undercoat that "blows" AND the top coat that just plain sheds......

its typically only heavy shedding for a few weeks in the spring..... and this year came late because our spring was so cool..... so we are in the midst of it right now......

good long combing every evening on the deck after we come back from her run in the park...... she LOVES it.... except for her tail....... blow the deck off to the ground below..... and its gone the next day..... suspect that the many squirrels and birds around here have nice, soft, white and red lined nests.......
