If anyone hugs at my house, my dog has to be in on the action. He jumps up and wants to be held between the huggers! Is it jealousy or just nutty dog stuff?
My dog and my 2 year old fight over who gets to sit by Mom all the time! If she is sitting by me, he wants to lay across us both and then my daughter gets all upset and yells at him to get off...lol If he is sitting against me which he usually does, she gets all flustered and tells him to move because she wants to sit by me. Its so nice to be fought over! LOL
And every time my husband gets into bed (I always to go bed first), Tazz will growl at him unless he brings him a treat! LOL As soon as my husband walks into the room, Tazz will pounce up and lay in his spot so he cant come in unless he has a treat. And if my husband tries to move him, Tazz gets upset! LOL
Our pups get jealous to a point. They won't jump up all over us or try to get on top of us, but they do show us that they want some attention too. Like if we are sitting on the sofa cuddling, one, two or sometimes all three of them, will come up and lay their head on our legs and just stare at us with their pouty eyes until we pet them! lol! If we are standing up hugging or something they will squeeze their way in between us and stuff like that. So yeah, I do definitely think they get jealous, but they are pretty good about it for the most part.
Shadow is a pathetic kind of jealous. If some one hugs me she will come stand next to me and hang her head. If anyone tries to pay attention to the cat she will shove her body in between and then hang her head.
Since I don't have a lot of company, my dog gets jealous when I talk on the phone. She knows I'm talking to someone other than her. She gets her loudest squeak toy and squeaks it repeatedly right by me to disrupt my conversation. If that doesn't work, she goes in my room, runs under my bed and eats the carpet.
I was sick all of last week and Teddie was there by my side the whole entire time. He wouldn't let any of the other dogs come up to me or even let my mother give me a hug with out him getting upset. As if to say "she's mine and I'm taking care of her, so back off". It's cute, but I sure don't encourage it.
Missy [the Eski] can not STAND to see Max [the Sheltie] get any attention unless SHE is getting it also.
