As long as she doesn't steal it first, I see some turkey in my Shelby's future.

Maybe mine are deprived, no thanksgiving feast for them, but I'm sure they won't know the difference. They are only get beef, chicken or pork (depending on the dog) and liver. Should have got pork today but it still wasn't thawed after all night! Should be ready tomorrow morn.

While they won't be getting turkey from the bird we will be eating, they'll be getting some raw ground turkey tomorrow for dinner. They love it!!

I had always heard to never give turkey to dogs. So this year, I am putting bacon strips on my turkey as it cooks (recommendation from a colleague) and will give Simon some of the bacon. I hope it is as good as my coworker says. He will also get leftover filet from tonight's dinner.

Of course, you can give turkey to dogs. I'm not sure where you heard that from. Turkey is probably much better for your dog than bacon.

SXMGIRL ,Maybe you heard don't give turkey skin to dogs as sometimes there is too much fat and in large amounts it can cause pancreatitis in some dogs.

I have to work tomorrow so no fancy Thanksgiving dinner for me and poor Dash will not get the chance to steal anything like he did last year. Last year we left the dogs alone for a couple minutes on Thanksgiving before dinner and Dash took a cake off the counter and ate the whole thing and no he did not get sick. I do have a can of Merricks Thanksgiving dinner for the dogs as they love it.

PLEASE:

The kindest thing you can do is NOT to give your dog a 'special meal.'

One of my best friends is a vet and she thinks of Thanksgiving as 'pancreatitis' day in her practice. Too many people thinking they're kind by giving their dogs mashed potatoes, gravy and lots of other fatty foods.

Pancreatitis can be FATAL. REALLY.

Just be thankful you have such a wonderful friend and spare the 'special meal.' You might be saving your dog's life.
