Post this down below under Pets/dogs, hopefully someone will give you some suggestions. I have 3 yorkies, love them! Got 1 as a rescue from a breeder 4 years ago and bought my other 2 from a breeder in Dothan 12 years ago and I know she no longer has them. I'd also check the classifieds of the largest city near where you are, that was how I found the breeder in Dothan. If you are open to a rescue yorkie, you may want to google yorkie rescue Alabama. I know I have a yorkie rescue in St. Cloud, Florida but you should look closer to where you are. You really have to be patient with a rescue, my little girl was not house broken and she was 1.5 years when I got her, had been kept in a cage her whole life.
If you have not had a yorkie before they are 100% love!

Default yorkie

Please check the local shelters in your area. There are so many dogs and puppies in the shelters right now. The economy has left so many unable to pay and care for their pets. You may very well find a Yorkie at one of these shelters just waiting for a forever home. Don't buy from a pet store. Too often they come from Puppy Mills and purchasing them just perpetuates the problem.

Check SPCA, animal control and rescues in AL and even TN. They are always closing down puppymills around here and these dogs need homes. I have 2 yorkies, 1 I got from a friend who bred her dog and the other is a teacup from a puppymill. As Guntersville Boomer states my puppymill dog had never been out of his cage and he is not housebroken, plus he had to have 12 teeth pulled and his hair was all matted. He is not too sure about ppl and stayed on a blanket most of the day. He is just now coming around so he isn't as skittish.

Please, please do not buy a dog from a puppymill. They advertise in the paper so beware.

Stay away from pet stores, too. Most of them masquerade as puppy mills.

How do you tell it's a puppymill from their newspaper ad?

You can't always tell but I have seen ads where they usually have more than one breed of dog for sale or more than one litter for sale.

If you want a Yorkie with a clean bill of health, pull out your wallet. And remember that there are USUALLY heath issues with any dog (Yorkie or others) sold as 'Teacup', that is not a breed standard and reputable breeders are not trying to get the smallest of any breed, but the best. Check the AKC website and talk to multiple breeders before you buy.

If you decide you will only accept a registered dog from a breeder, at least do your research and find a good reputable one that does full genetic testing of any dog before they breed it. There is not a single reputable breeder with a quality dog that will ever sell on a puppy mill site like the ones listed above. Avoid them at all cost if they advertise there. They also will never advertise in the newspaper.
