My former lab had diabetes. I am guessing your dog is on insulin? We fed our dogs Science Diet kibble and then when Chase was diagnosed we had to make sure he ate twice a day when we gave him his shots. So we bought the Science Diet canned food and never had a problem.
She is on insulin twice a day and we are having a problem getting her to eat. My husband has been "hand feeding" her. We're trying out different foods but haven't tried the Science diet canned food yet. Will try it and see if that works.

Harry is my now 7-year old extra-large Silky Terrier. I wrote about him in an earlier post--he is diabetic and newly blind. It was something quite unexpected that led to his current state, and I want to share it with other dog moms and dads.
Harry was never sickly--he had been sick only as a puppy when I first brought him home at 8 weeks, but that was due to giardia--it can take a very long time to be finally rid of that parasite! But I write this to illustrate that Harry was a healthy and happy dog...until last year, when he got an ear infection. Yes, something so seemingly innocuous that turned into a life-changing event. His itchy ear problem turned out to be a common culprit--yeast. The vet put him on an anti-fungal drug called Ketaconozole. Within a few days of this treatment, Harry became very ill. On Sunday morning, I awoke to 11 puddles of vomit in the living room and kitchen--it appeared to be just water that was coming up, but of course there was bile, too. He was lethargic and simply feeling miserable. I called the vet, then brought Harry in, grateful that my animal hospital is open around the clock, seven days a week.
After many tests, the vet concluded that Harry had an enlarged liver and also pancreatitis. The doc then told me that the enlarged liver was due to the Ketaconozole--it was a known side-effect. However, he could not be certain what had caused the pancreatitis. Common sense told me that BOTH of these problems were caused by this anti-fungal medication. I don't believe it was just a coincidence!
Harry ended up staying at the pet hospital for several days, being monitored and tested further; lab tests as well as ultra-sound, so they could get a good look at his organs. Finally, the vet called me at home and said, "The good news is: Harry can go home. The bad news is: he is now diabetic and must be given insulin injections twice a day."
That was in November of 2012. Harry's eyes began getting cloudy just a few weeks ago, and today Harry is blind. It has all happened so quickly. We will see the vet today to determine whether anything can be done for him. Reading all of your posts here gives me hope--my sincere thanks to all of you!
Our 12 year old pug is diabetic and has eaten Science Diet W/D for the past 4 years (and gets insulin twice a day). Luckily for us, he is a pug and will eat pretty much anything. Good luck!
