I liked Beverly Hills Chihuahua and hope to see Dog Hotel or whatever it was called in the next few weeks. I broke down and saw BHC in the theaters twice, which I never do. I try very hard to not support movies with dogs - espeically pure breed dogs - in the leading roll as it just makes the BYBs business thrive, thus creating even more havoc for the over population problem. But it was really cute.....

I read Marley and Me when it first came out and cried like a baby. I can't speak about the movie -- although I did hear that it wasn't quite true to the book -- but you can't miss with a Lab puppy, right? Cuteness.
I couldn't think of any dog movies for you, but this link lists a ton of them. It doesn't seem up to date, as Marley and Me isn't on the list, but check it out if you'd like:
Well if you want to include "oldies" my vote is for Homeward Bound, the Incredible Journey. Even now I get a tear in my eye at the end when I watch it!

Read Marley and Me...absolutely died laughing and crying. But the movie....what a disappointment!
If we're talking oldies..."Old Yeller"!
PS...isn't Netflix great?!
The Incredible Journey, original and remake are awesome movies. I cannot watch a sad dog movie, Old Yeller destroyed me. I loved Beverly Hills Chihuahua, think they did a really good job. Not too silly and great doggie actors! Loved the German Shepherd and The Dobie! I'm the sort that always checks to make sure the dog stays alive at the end of the movie before I see it!
Hotel for Dogs - foster kids wind up creating a place for homeless dogs. If only art were imitating life in this case. Special features worth viewing to see how 20 dogs with 20 handlers do it.
Homeward Bound, Air Bud also come to mind as fun viewing.
At the other end of the spectrum is this powerful but graphic 5 minute video about chained dogs.

I made it through 46 seconds of that video and I thought I'd throw up. Instead I cried and then hugged my dog. So sad. I can't imagine that the other 4+ minutes were any better. I'll never know. I can't watch it.
