I'm very happy to be out of the horrible humidity of the Georgia coast, between the heat, humidity, mosquitos and sand gnats I was miserable for those 5 years.....

Back in Charlotte now, and I've noticed my MaltiPoo panting after we come in from walks, he has plenty of cool water, and I will be giving his coat a trim tomorrow - it's not that long. I wondered about mixing some peppermint oil with distilled water and lightly spraying him with it to cool him. It was in the 90's today and will be all week.....

thoughts?

Just spraying him with water during the walks will help. Also they have neck wraps for dogs http://www.amazon.com/HyperKewl-Evap...+wrap+for+dogs

I think Wal-mart carries them in Sporting for a few dollars.

If it's hot out, I always wet my dogs with a hose, but they all like water. When we have marched in parades (I am Santa and Tuck and Taffy have Mr. And Mrs. Clause outfits for the last two years with my training club) I wet the costumes too.

I also have a small wading pool in the back yard that both dogs will soak in to cool off if they get hot on a walk, and sometimes just because they like water...

Wading pools are great! Temps here regularly get to the mid and high 90's. After the walk, and between, the dogs love to cool off in them!!

Default cool dog

He hates hates hates water..... I've been wetting a washcloth and lightly brushing him down with it but I don't know if it helps... that's why I wondered about misting him with the water. I may try just water to see if it helps,

thanks!

Keep his pads cool and give him ice to eat.

Dogs don't sweat through their skin the way humans do, so wetting him down with washcloths will not do much unless you're focusing on his belly and pads.

You can give him a wading pool (if you can get him to like water), put boots on his feet (if he'll tolerate them), give him a cooling pad to sleep on, or keep him in cool air.

both!!! will not go near a lake, stream or the ocean - shakes and freaks out. Tolerates baths because he's too short to jump out of the tub!

He doesn't seem to be uncomfortable when he's panting I think its more my concern. When I've wiped him down with the wet cloth, he still pants, and it's not like he's gaasping for air, he's just panting.
