I just got forwarded an e-mail about some nimrod owner who CUT OUT their dog's vocal chords because it barked too much...disgusting and unbelieveably cruel! If people can't learn to train their dogs properly to take care of unwanted behavior, they shouldn't be allowed to have a dog! I'm so sick over this, I'm in tears...that poor dog will now never be able to communicate if a potential threat surfaces, express joy, or let someone know he's hungry...! This needs to be made illegal, (as does de-clawing cats IMO) I've attached a link to the petition, please PLEASE sign and speak out against this atrocious act!!!

I knew someone who did that to their horse I also think the neighbors did it to their dog, he has a very odd bark it sounds like he is far away but he is right there.
That is not that uncommon, especially with people who live in cities and live in apartments or houses where people complain a lot about barking dogs. I do not agree with it at all, but this is not all that rare.
I had a friend 20 + yrs ago that Had to have her Collies DeBarked! Try as we might we jjust couldnt train them to be quiet!! They were show dogs raised on the farm & Quiet was just not something they had to be...until she moved to the city!! After 6 months of complaints & seeing no other option she took them to the vet & had them debarked. Her other choice was having them put to sleep!!
I think you may be confusing a "tie back" which is a surgical procedure to keep a horse's windpipe open and thereby stop "roaring" (a term used for a horse that has compromised air intake) and a canine's debarking/cutting of the vocal chords. They are most definitely not in the same league.
I simply don't buy it that the "only other option" is to put the dog to sleep...what about finding it a new home? Or hiring a good trainer? I'm disturbed that this is more common than I'd realized, this is the first I've ever heard of anything like this!
How about the fact they were being responsible owners. New home whould not have changed the dogs & yes she WAS a trainer as was I & we & other trainers worked with them for months. These were Not Dumb dogs All 3 were Ch Confirmation Show Dogs & Ch Obedience & Herding dogs! This was a hard choice for her cause they were her Kids!! Why in the World whould she give up dogs she had since birth!
