crazy as it sounds, can my dog catch the flu, should i be taking precautions at public places that other dogs visit, now that the h1n1 scare is on, does anyone use euca oil to wash down bedding and sleeping area, i did this when my dog had kennel cough, seemed to work, does the bordatello (spelling) work for all cough infections.
Dogs can't contract H1N1, HOWEVER, there is a new canine influenza strain that is potentially dangerous, especially for brachycephalic breeds such as pugs, Boston terriers, bulldogs, etc. There is also a vaccine that's been developed for this influenza.
Regarding Bordetella: Kennel cough is the name of a SYNDROME, tracheobronchitis, that can be caused by MANY organisms, including Bordetella, as well as some viruses. The vaccine has efficacy against SOME of these organisms, but not all of them, so a dog vaccinated for kennel cough can STILL get tracheobronchitis, if it's caused by an organism NOT covered by the vaccine.
