My mutts have dry skin. My groomer suggested a vet-type fish oil, which is pricy but five of the pooches are fine with it. My little old toothless Pomeranian, Little Prince Moofie, will not eat anything with the scent of fish I gave him his chicken wet food with a splash of the fish oil and he didn't eat all day, and he has the driest skin, I think.
I remember from childhood giving our dog peanut oil in his food for dry skin. How about olive oil? What do people suggest? Remember, Moofie can't eat a capsule or anything- too small to eat it by accident, and toothless. Thanks.

Peanut oil or sunflower oil?

We do sunflower butter since my youngest DD has a peanut allergy and our dog's coat and skin have greatly improved.

Olive oil has worked very well for me. Canola oil has too, but some people feelit isn't healthy.

Olive oil is fine for dry skin. Just make sure you only use a small amount because it can cause upset stomach.

krill oil (you can use HUMAN fish oil too alot less expensive and its the exact same tuff lol)
if your going to go "food oils" go COLD presses, olive and coconut come to mind first and foremost.

I dont give ANY ind of heat treated vegatable (inc canola) theres all kinds of nasty stuff aded to them that i wont even put in my own body.

peanut oil will work but id personaly go a good olive over peanut.

I give my dogs the fish oil intended for human use, the very cheap kind (after all, they enjoy fishy burps).

I would probably mix a little olive oil in the wet dog food for Moofie, not a lot or he'll get the runs.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did mention that he won't touch anything that smells of fish, no matter how slight. He's a tiny dog, so I'll try a couple of drops of olive oil. thanks to all.

Olive oil and Vitamin E oil were recommended by my holistic vet. My sweet girl who just passed loved (organic) coconut oil.

We've got the same issue with our 1 year old. This is our first winter together and she is constantly scratching Not enough to create burn marks but she is clearly bothered.

At first I thought it was fleas even though it was winter. I gave her a topo and it really bothered her dry skin. We then gave her a bath with conditioners and that seemed to help a lot But a month later she was back at it. I tried olive oil in her food, then fish oil capsules Nothing seemed to work. So we went back and got another bath, with oatmeal whatever, and again it's helping but she is still scratching a bit. I guess we'll have to wait for summer.
