How much of your income do YOU spend on rent?
About 12% of my gross... and that's because I have 2 roommates who I charge enough to cover the rent and 75% of the lights/water/trash/cable/internet.

Everyone comes out ahead because they are still paying much less than they would pay for a 1BR of their own.

Housing is ridiculous around here... LOL

To be more accurate, I am an earner.

If you built it yes...but the vast majority of landlords literally did not build that.

How do you figure? Are you really alleging that the majority of landlords were given their rental properties?

Please show me the proof of that.

Well, the vast majority either worked for the money to buy it, or are "renting" the capital from a bank.

I'll probably be moving out soon though and housing is pretty expensive in my area. I don't think I'll be able to spend much less than 1/3 of my income on an apartment (take home pay is ~$3000/month). Definitely not looking forward to that.
No reason to blow so much on rent. A room in a house can be rented for much less. I am in the suburbs of DC as well and pay $525/month + my share of utilities.
