What percentage of your take home pay do you spend on rent per month? (Union: apartment, to rent)

I spend 43% of my monthly income on rent at the moment. All though I can tell you, the majority of people in the city (by city, I mean Manhattan) will spend a tad less than this because landlords require that you make at least 40 times yearly to qualify for an apartment.
I make well over the 40x rule, but still when it comes to my net take home, about 43% goes to rent, provided I haven't worked any overtime.
Union dues, pension contribution, 5% gross going into a deferred comp plan, etc... = a *very* big difference between my gross and take home amounts.
