I predict that soon, Americans will have so much money, they will be able to afford a product no matter where it is made. Even the high COL United States. They will be able to afford nice things for a change. And then, doing business in America will be easy and attractive again. What do you think?

I think that homes will be priced out of reach and the rent will be so high that people won't be able to afford to buy things.

Americans can already afford "A" product, the problem americans have is they want too many products at the same time.

The bigger problem is that people can only afford the same products that they could in 1980. That's corporate-based economics for you.

This is just plain silly. I am retired so my income is not going to increase. I also know better about American made products. I still remember the nightmare of American made cars before it was feasible to buy foreign cars. They had defects often due to sabotage. They rarely lasted more than 5 years or 50,000 miles. They were "unsafe at any speed".

Planned obsolescence. They knew how to build safe, efficient cars that would last, but they refused to do it, even after German and Japanese cars came along. Even with all the extra shipping costs, foreign cars were simply a better bargain.

I believe that we will have more people who can afford something or some things.

I believe we will (again) have more people who will become more discriminating about buying quality vs quantity, buying one item that is probably made better and will last longer vs 10 of the same item sequentially to get through the same time period.

I believe that if we provide the right environment, they will build it. I believe it if that we build it, they will come.

I believe that the garbage dumps will be not quite as full if the second statement comes true.

I do not believe in utopia/nirvana. I believe in logic, reality and reason.

You are attributing a level of intelligence to the auto industry that they do no deserve. Like most conspiracy theories, the basic flaw is the incompetence of large organizations. Conspiracies are beyond their capabilities. Obsolescence was not planned. It just occurred due to incompetence.
