And I have made the calculation that people of similar credit risk will pay additional interest rates to offset my risk so that overall I get a similar yield as a pool full of lower risk borrowers.

stop with that . your life is your fault . you are where you are because of all your bad choices , poor decisions and lack of motivation .excuses are easier than action .
i grew up in a nyc housing project . i pleaded with my buddies to go to trade school with me 40 years ago . nope , they were happy hanging out and drinking beer working menial low end jobs .
