Economics aside, I'd wish that I'd thought to do this for certain devices. I had an inexpensive juicer that was fantastic, and when it finally gave up the ghost, I found this model wasn't made any more and the current crop was terrible. I wish I'd bought three more of them and stashed them away somewhere until needed. But I wouldn't do it just to save $15 on a microwave when they all pretty much have the same features.

Well, it will slow down spending; and it will mean less profits for China, which they can turn into military gun-boats and casinos that they export as foundation stones of a Chinese empire. China's recent rise from the ashes of communism only happens because they now have access to marketplaces around the world.
The real danger, from our American perspective, is that we are financing the rise of a military empire to rival our own. What if is time to stop spending and start saving? What if we start BUYING AMERICAN only; and saving? Will this let the air out of the Chinese bubble?

I'm still not going to clutter up my storage with stockpiled kitchen appliances . Although it was a big disappointment when my Oster kitchen center clonked out and I discovered it was no longer available. Oster, by the way, isn't manufactured in China.

I hear exactly what you're saying. I have some opinions, too. Allow me to expand:
There are Chinese goods being sold today for more than American-made goods ever did, adjusted for inflation. Not much has been done to stop even high end luxury models of appliances to be outsourced. Such as the $899 microwave to match the $3999 refrigerator to match the $2500 range. If it's "made (assembled) in the USA" there are some parts imported. Whether the drain pump, controls, hinges... something.
Once the manufacturing slipped outside the US, it will be three times harder to create a plan that brings it back, despite having many good reasons to. Outsourcing was never about bringing a lower price to consumers. This was about widening profit margins.

This reminds me of an interview I read many years ago. Apparently, when Sonny and Cher first started out, they were pretty broke. After one of their better-paying gigs, Cher went out and bought two toaster ovens. When Sonny asked her why, she said that, while they had the money, she wanted a spare in case they couldn't afford to buy another one when the first one wore out.
