Alright, big fan of this board and get a kick out of most posts. Lots of good info, but also lots of over the top imagination that is stretched to the unth degree.

First thing is first, the world is not ending. I really think a lot of people on this forum get a kick out of losing money(well maybe not theirs, but indiviudals IRA's). This morning Dow Futures down 550, many on this board were praying and even saying, THIS IS THE CRASH!. Then guess what? No crash. Bad day, yes. But no crash.
Month of October horrible horrible horrible, I would call the month of October a steady collapse. With that being said, this is not the Great Depression No. 2 or finanacial armageddon.

Get away from the TV and you will see what most people see, restaraunts packed, people still going to movies, football stadiums packed, people shopping, etc. etc.

Now the doom and gloomers will say, "Our preception is everything is fine and we are just messing it up more."

Again, things are not good. The facts are that people are losing money in real estate, IRA's, Investments. People are also losing their jobs. This has always happened and will always happen. Right now though, there is a great increase in all the above.
It happens and will happen again.

But overall, 5-10 years from now people will have made up the losses(not great since they would have broken even), people will get jobs and lose jobs, etc. etc. etc.

My overall point is to balance all the negativity.

One could say, hey The Dollar is gaining value, gas prices currently down, hooray!!!!

I am not nieve enough to say things are good, they are not, but they are and will not get as bad as many oddly hope for.

Did you ever think that maybe they are "warning" and not "hoping" ?
I don't think anyone is hoping for a crash IMO. I sure am not.

Probably need to get away from the internetz, too...with all that real time accurate information and stuff.

I can see your point. And for your first post ever, I'll cut you some slack. Some...not a heck of a lot, but some.
//www.city-data.com/forum/busin...nightmare.html
While the economy has grown around 5% a year over the last seven years, government spending promises have grown 13% a year.
Certainly, the US has world-beating companies, vast manufacturing industries and a giant services sector, which produced a national income (GDP) of $14 trillion last year. Yet it owes almost five times that in government promises to its own citizens in terms of education, healthcare and retirement-linked benefits. That is $67 trillion, a figure that has ballooned from $29 trillion in 2000.

So tell me, bud.....if I sit here and hope and pray that everything will be cool, will it be cool? Is that your plan? Just curious. Because we haven't had a 67 trillion dollar deficit, yet. Hasn't happened. Coming due. Whacha gonna do, whacha gonna do when it comes for you? Might end up paying 80 percent (I made up that number) of your wages in taxes. And, it won't be just me. It'll be my kids...and their kids.

A lot of posters on this forum are getting a thrill out of everybody else losing their money. With all the political talk of "socialism" and "class warfare", maybe they think those with money or those that have debt are going to be knocked down a peg - everyone will financially be on the same level. Who the heck knows!!! I seriously doubt that is going to happen and your right ... the World is not ending.

It is in no sense given that in "5-10 years" people will have made up the losses. Nothing guarantees that will happen.

But, why don't you come back in a year and make this post.

Funny, our restaurants and other businesses are falling apart, but then again we do have a greedy government - Labour, UK, that squeezes us dry.

people who have always expected that government will take care of them cannot envision a day when government cannot afford to take care of them.

Agree with the OP that the world is not ending.

Everyone on the planet can fall over and the world will go on spinning. Empires come and go, such is the way of the world.

As for the rest, the US is sinking. It has been for a while. That folks here feet are now getting wet -- that is a clear indicator of at what level the water is now. Just gets deeper ahead. There are no proposals for effective patches, and no working pumps on board.

You tell me how this is going to turn out.

As for the rest, what with "rest[aura]nts packed, people still going to movies, football stadiums packed, people shopping, etc. etc." per your observations I suppose we should all dance while the band plays on.

I suspect a little wiser course involves lifeboats. It is not a "hope for bad." It is called basic responsibility. First responsibility for and to yourself, then family and then community. All a bit past-dated in America.

No GG, it is not a thrill, at least not for me -- more like watching a slow motion car or train wreck. You can see it coming, but it just keeps going and going. And as I have some friends and family aboard your crazy train, there is no joy and no real entertainment in watching the mass stupidity.

Here is the painful part -- Anyone who looked ahead could see it coming. This has been well studied and published, all in advance. And now looking ahead one can see where the rest of this may play out.

But like teenagers piling into the backseat of a drunk driver, onward the mass of people keep piling. Claims of "I believe Joe X or Jane Y is a good (drunk) driver" is what we hear from the political folks. "I believe in believing in believing about believing things will get better because I believe it," from folks like the OP. All just sort of like a strange comic and tragically sad all at the same time.

At least consider there is considerable downside risk and choose wisely.
