MACON, GA (WGXA/CNN/WALB) – Students at Wilcox County High School in south Georgia share classrooms and sports fields, but they don't share the same dances. Some students are aiming to change that.
"We're embarrassed, it's embarrassing, yeah it's kind of embarrassing," said a group of students who want to change the policy.
Good question, will the United States of America turn into the Balkanized States of America?
I thought that is pretty much how it started with each generation moving further and further away from that model
A 60-70 years ago my English grandmother was warned to stay away from those "I-talian" boys and many of the local communities were organized by where you came from - a polish town, an english town, an italian pocket here or there, the Irish crashing pretty much wherever they pleased
Many of the older US cities were very segregrated into neighborhoods .... now we enjoy a chinatown or little italy but the context was much diffent back then ..... now when you look at the fast growing cities in the sunbelt these lines really don't exist
This prom is a holdover from our history of either grouping ourselves off from others or the more forced segregation of our past ..... I agree with these students, it is embarassing that in this day and age you would have a segregated prom - regardless of what side of the community is calling for it .... one school one dance .... continue to take these steps forward and break down these arbitrary lines
People all over the world segregate themselves for a variety of reasons. I support peoples freedom to segregate themselves for whatever reason they have.

And these high school students are freely choosing not to segregate themselves.
