In this day and age of Amber Alerts vs Big Brother which side has a better advantage, if at all? Should tracking devices become mandatory for all students or is it a step to far?

If you or your child has a cell phone, you are tracked.
GPS tracking shouldn't be used by police or other government agencies without a judge's agreement that the tracking is based on a good reason to believe it will turn up evidence of a crime. Without court oversight or just cause for the use of this technology, our private lives as revealed by our movements can surely turn our country into a Big Brother reality.
A child that doesn't want to be found will dispose of it and a kidnapper will remove it. It would be too easy to "lose" unless kids are microchipped the way pets are and I'm not sure that's a good idea. It seems like that would put children needlessly at risk of bodily harm (in an effort to remove it).
The highest percentage of kidnappings are committed by people known to the child or family. This will continue to be the case until we find a way to make family law more fair for all parties.
