My young one is scheduled to take the SBEC test next week. While I probably should be a better parent and know what it encompasses I have no idea.
What I do know is that a large number of his cohorts have opted out of taking the exam. He is a junior in high school.
I've made just about every mistake a parent could make when it comes to educational choices....... some think I should have been arrested for not having held back my child born in December.
In any event, do any of you smart people know why I should keep my child from taking this test?
The "Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium." Normally I would not have thought twice about it but it appears that the majority of my son's friends have opted out.
Only because it seems like many other parents are opting their kids out. I thought maybe there was a reason for the resistance.
So why don't you inquire them about their reasoning and see how it applies to your kid. I am all for opting out of choices (if one is given) but blinding follow what others does is ill advised.

Which, I believe, is why the poster is asking about the test.....
We don't have this test in PA. It's not a national test that every child has to have. In some states you cannot opt out of the states tests.

I understand but why not inquire one's cohort who elected to not have their kids take the exam vs a bunch of strangers who probably are not familiar with the school system that OP is in.
Once again I'm an idiot. Its SBAC testing, not SBEC testing.
Any thoughts?
You wrote SBEC, so that's what I looked at. I had no idea what the SBAC is until you just told us.
