With the school year well under way, and Thanksgiving on the horizon, many fall athletes are winding down their seasons while winter athletes prepare to gear up for theirs.
But as student athletes take the field, some parents worry about potential injuries to their children.
too many dang energy drinks and sodas and not enough milk. i coach football and we had 11 kids with broken bones this year. they weren't all from football either.
As one comment said, what sport doesn't have injuries. Someone else posted that the risk of a sedentary lifestyle is worse than the risk of injury. While I do not poo-poo the possibility of injury, I agree.
I think high school sports sometimes handle the injuries better than clubs, b/c there is usually a trainer around. Club sports rely on the coaches, who have little to no training. I speak from experience.
When I looked at the list I found the two sports my kids play at the top of list (football and lax). However, I would not tell my kids to stop doing something they love because they might get hurt. IMO life entails risk and I don't want my kids to be afraid to do anything because there are always downsides to anything you do.
