Hi, I'm a first year teacher, currently working at a charter school. I expect I won't be brought back next year because of enrollment dropping and need to get my resume out there. I found posting for a job I'm interested in which stresses sending a cover letter. I'm not really good at writing them.
Do any of you know of any sites with examples of well written cover letters for teachers?
Also how much previous, non teaching related, job experience do you include in a cover letter.
I don't know of any sites, but I do know that there are alot of good books on the subject.
When I was first starting out, I got a book called Just Resumes that included many resume variations as well as examples and tips re: cover letters.
RE: previous experience--include it but explain why it is relevant to your current career and how it contributed to your professional development.
For example, if you worked at a restaurant, and then went into teaching, emphasize how your ability to work well with colleagues, as a team, at the restaurant prepared you for being able to build positive r-ships and a team atmosphere with educational colleagues.
Good Luck!
