i am looking for a home and ranch in the van horn and west texas, and thought it seemed pretty nice out there. is there anything a west texas newbie should know about that area??? Please advice.

(Like checkpoints on roads off the border.
Are there checkpoints throughout the state off the border and where are the checkpoints located.
How many.
Where can I find out the number and location.

Are there temporary checkpoints and how often.

What is consensus thinking or popular thinking for future plans.)

Why you so concerned with Border Patrol checkpoints?

Must be an illegal......or involved in smuggling/trafficking.

I really can't think of any other reason.

Ba-Ha-Ha! 'Don't know about anyone else, but I get that the OP has a sense of humor. Too funny. The only thing I would have added to it was "does anyone know where the underground sensors, or infrared cameras are placed?".

You'll learn the number and location of the checkpoints as you drive around in that area.

Thank you, I talked to border patrol earlier today and got a good idea of checkpoints. Like I mentioned, I am moving to the area.

Is there anything else a West Texas/ Van Horn / Alpine newbie should know about the area.

Wow so if you go to van horn you can always ask my mom...maria arellano...but if you go to alpine it is pretty nice..so you know that check point if before you get to sierra blanca...and if you go to fort davis it is also nice. Check out the cafes and talk to the locals and they can give you info, or just stop by the tourist offices
just remember that there are some places with nothing but open air...like van horn a lot of people have left because of lack of work for me it more a retirement place than anything thats why mom loves van horn...

I own a few acres in Sierra Blanca and have been through Van Horn a few times.
Nice little place, I also like Marfa really well.
