Does anyone know whether any bullfights are scheduled this summer/fall in Juarez? I've researched the internet without much success. Info I did find is several years old. I'm planning to visit EP late summer or early fall with some friends and would like to attend. Thanks for responses.

Listen, Stay out of JUAREZ, no really. I just got a briefing across my desk today, from the DEPT of Homeland Security, and there is a rise in concern with the Mexican Border, near El Paso, and a couple other cities lower in the state. There has been a rise in kidnapping, and murder in these areas, and suspected terrorist cells are in the area. There is also a few words on the recent cartel activity in these areas. So be careful.

I am not trying to panic anyone.. just stay out of Mexico, unless you have no other choice to go over, like work etc.

I don't think there are any bullfights in Juarez anymore since they shut down the last of the bullrings. Personally, I don't know why anyone would attend one of these "fights", it's kind of pointless and boring but whatever floats your boat. As far as Juarez being unsafe, well it is, but what city is 100% safe? It's all relative. I am very familiar with that town (born there, grew up there until age of 14) so I guess I am not that intimidated by it, plus it helps if you can speak the language and kind of blend in too.

I remember when I was a kid I always wanted to go see a bullfight in juarez. That is, until I saw a bullfight on tv. Never realized they kill all the bulls which I don't agree with. This is an antiquated sport that really needs to be retired. But then again, the prevalence of ****/dog fighting is still around..

Yeah, I went to a bullfight in Juarez in 1994 and it was pretty hard to watch -- the blood, the gore, the moment of the kill, and when they drag the dead bull (with its tongue hanging out) out of the ring with chains and a small truck -- all hard to stomach. I guess as a goody goody catholic, for me, it made me think about life, death, fate, and the poor soul of the bull who is killed as part of a spectator sport -- made me very sad, quite frankly. Any way, I didn't hear they closed the the plaza de toros in Juarez. Nice place to look at girls, though.

I thought I saw where they were going to do bullfights again in Juarez -- but I'm not sure about that. They discontinued them a while back -- but why not just go to a charreada or something in El Paso? Then you wouldn't have the risks you would in Juarez and it's not nearly as brutal and bloody.

I knew you were going to get slammed for that -- but -- honestly -- would anyone actually recommend that someone from out-of-town who likely doesn't know his way around or speak the language go to Juarez?

Yes -- chances are you'll make it out alive, chances are you'll do just fine -- same as you would in Detroit or the inner city of Houston -- but -- no one can honestly claim it's all that safe to do. I know people from Juarez who say they never go back to visit because they don't think it's too safe anymore -- and besides they say everyone they grew up with is over here now. And two murderers escaped into Juarez crossed the bridge the same day to turn themselves in -- because they didn't feel safe over there -- apparently they felt they'd be safe in a prison here than free over there.

Still -- most innocent tourist looking Americans sticking with the tourist areas will not run into any problem.
