Why the heck would we stay when the job prospects are abysmal?

I relocated with my job to Dallas 4 years ago, my only regret is my family! They are all in El Paso, and the Hispanic Culture - there is a definate warmness in our people, you dont really get that in other cities, at least not in the one I live in now. I hope to move back, just wish the job market was better!!!

Arrived in Portland, Or today. Regrets: I have none for leaving - El Paso doesn't offer what im looking for in a city. That being said, I don't regret the time I spent there either.

Yes you are right. that is the number one cultural identity that should be put in the forefront. I met a new family this Christmas and they opened their home to us and honored us with a fine meal and warmth that I do not experience in Central Texas.

Unfortunately For me the Hispanic Culture is now called the Border Culture. 230,000 new residents from the south are quickly changing the uniqueness of El Paso and turning it into Mexico extended north of the Rio Grande.

Where did you get this number? El Paso's metropolitan area Census population went from 679,622 in 2000 to 763,186 in 2010.

I correct myself. My bad

Ciudad Juarez residents flee Mexico's 'dying city' - El Paso Times (http://www.elpasotimes.com/ci_16991310?source=most_viewed - broken link)

article says 230,000 have left Juarez. Where do you think some (not all) have moved?

Thank you for correcting that Smooth. 230,000 didn't sound or feel right. I think actual number might be around 50,000. I am all over town all the time. I have seen some differences but not a huge impact.

I know many people who had a nice lifestyle & house in Juarez who are now apartment dwellers in El Paso. Others are now apartment dwellers in nicer parts of Mexico.

I continue to be amazed at how many from Mexico are still coming to Ruidoso on vacation. The rental house across from me had three vehicles with Mexican plates this past week - skiers apparently.

And the area has seen a large influx of people from Mexico who are living here on longer term basis - which is nothing particularly new since this trend began in earnest with the advent of NAFTA and less restrictive border crossing requirements for Mexican citizens.

In fact, NM is one of the few states where ILLEGALS can get a NM driver's license!
