that wasn't my situation. we were happy in new orleans until hurricane katrina, and so far st. louis has been an easy city to be in. el paso was our problem. i am glad that it is not true for every one, but for us, the problem was el paso.

Im not trying to say that there is ppl out there that didnt have bad experience in el paso. As for us we havent had bad yet and hope it stays that way. To me its all about how ppl are used to live and what they used to as far as neighborhood etc. All i can say is their is ppl like my husband who are fighting for this country and seen a lot poorer countrys then we are that propably appriactes a few things more then others. I mean if you dont know any different how would you know right? Myself grew up with a divorced mom and a brother that had what was nessecary to be happy but we didnt have a lot. I guess to me , if i have a nice house , enough food , my kids are happy etc is all i need. I dont care bout what other ppl say think or do if it doesnt include me or my family. Maybe more ppl should be like that i dont know. It just blows my mind that most ppl complain about lil things when all u see on tv is devastation with those storms hitting etc. I guess im trying to say ...BE HAPPY WITH WHAT YOU GOT BECAUSE THERE ARE OTHERS THAT ARE NOT THAT FURTUNATE....

Good for you! El Paso needs more people like you! I'm really glad you like it there. I lived there for almost 7 yrs and I could not wait to move. It just wasn't for me. I met some great people, mostly transplants. Great Mexican food though, that's for sure. I just can't justify paying 4K in property tax for a less than 150K house, I just did not see where they use the money. You probably like the low cost of housing, coming from NY. We moved to a higher cost of living region but I love it here so far. The schools are great and property taxes are low. I wish you luck and welcome!

For many it's not so much a horror story -- although I know one man that seems to be starting to think it is because he bought a very expensive house on the west side, from a supposedly good builder and is having terrible problems with it, bad leaks every time it rains that seem to be unfixable.

It all depends -- some people will like it here, some will not. I'm one who mostly likes it here but I don't like some things.

I think the weather here is hard to beat but I think some of the new subdivisions going up with houses very close together and tiny yards leave something to be desired. If I had to live in one of them -- I'd be packing my bags.

Default Leaks

I can relate to this guy with the leaky roof...never thought rain could cause such anxiety. What's up with homes here anyway?

Herzlich willkommen in El Paso! It's really not bad at all! I enjoy the sunshine and try to work around all the other obstacles There is a great lake about 2 hours north, Elephant Butte, with sandy beaches. We also have the Guadalupe Mountains to the east of us. Hope you will visit some of the extraordinary places this area has to offer.

I would not send any child to Da Vinci Charter School in El Paso, TX, the teacher turn around is devastating there, not to mention what it does to the student's, knowing their favorite teachers are gone, they lost 10 highly qualified teachers this past year some due to very low structure in the school, others to low pay, the rest to lack of proper academic equipment such as robotics, science and PE, the school replace those qualified teachers with 1st year teachers, I don't know about anyone else but I would never put my child with such inexperience teachers, My daughter was there last year and I pulled her out as soon as I knew the teachers had moved to better schools, I run in to some teachers from last year and they told me the school is a stepping stone for teachers, they receive 1 year of teaching experience and move to a other schools, the school had the best technology teacher in El Paso with tons of digital Media/Graphic Design experience, before teaching he worked for several world know agencies and brought that experience to Da Vinci Technology, creating the most exciting curriculum I have ever seen, he was also 1 of the 10 teachers that moved on, now they have a teacher who is trying to mimic his position (can't even come close), When I realized he moved on that's when I pulled out my daughter and so did other parents, I sure wish I knew where this technology teacher is teaching now.

Anji, We are also moving to the area in Feb. My husband is already there and if everything goes as planned we should move into the house the first week! ( I am crossing my fingers!) I did a lot of research on the schools, public versus private, East Versus West etc. We choose the West side because my husband's main office is on the Westside and he also has a location in Las Cruces. There were great schools on both the East and West sides. My youngest children will attended Tippin when we move there. I also liked Kohlberg and Polk in that area. We just found the house in Tippin boundaries. Although I am not sure if we are in the boundaries of the new elementary school that will be built? Hope that helps! Not sure the ages of your children? I also have one in middle school. My zip code will be 79912. Maybe we can help each other out since we will both be newbies? Meredith
