PLEASE forgive me if i asked this already ~ I looked around but didnt' see a thread like this already. What is your opinion of the QUICKEST FASTEST way to Alamogordo from El Paso?? I got all excited cuz I figured out how to hop on loop 375, to railroad, to dyer, and then onto 54 at edge of texas. I was all excited till someone in alamo told me that is the OLD way to go! But, it seemed so much quicker and better than getting on I 10 and then hopping to 54! Soooo.....since ya'll are so wise you tell me the best way to go! hehe thanks in advance.

Also, the new spur 601..................is that something my husband can take to get to work on fort bliss? I live in Horizon city, and that seems like a pretty quick jaunt from L00P 375 ????

THANKS!!!

Stick to using US 54. I think that person in Alamogordo might have been pulling your leg.

I seem to remember from another thread that Spur 601 is only open between the Purple Heart Highway (Loop 375) and Global Reach Drive. It's not open all the way to Airport Road or the main post yet.

The previous poster is right - the only other way is thru Las Cruces and that would be waaaaay out of your way.

does anyone know when that might be? It has the airport exit sign up, that would stink to take it like it entices you to do, then isn't open?!?!?

I say skip Alamogordo alltogether. Town's a dump. The mountains are nice, though.

I would guess several years. I don't know the exact timetable.

Well...I think you can also go to Alamogordo from El Paso through Dell City via New Mexico Highway 506, but, that, too, would be an unnecessarily long trip, plus that road runs through the Fort Bliss reservation and is subject to closure due to military activity and probably doesn't have any gas stations or other services on it, either.

I remember they had the Trans-Mountain Road exit sign on the Patriot Freeway at Diana Drive for years before they actually extended the freeway up there and built the overpass and ramps and so forth. Don't worry about it.

Going via Las Cruces is subject to closure too if they're about to fire a missle.
