Employees of the US Consulate in Mexico were killed, there will be more involvement on both sides, as if Mexico wasn't already involved in Juarez. My condolences to the innocent here.

Mexico gunmen kill American consulate staff - Yahoo! News (http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100314/wl_nm/us_obama_mexico_murders - broken link)

Also, somewhat relate, 13 people were killed in Acapulco. I can just imagine those who had/have trips scheduled there for Spring Break.

These two incidents weren't in deepest darkest Juarez and were in broad daylight on a sunny Saturday afternoon. One was by the downtown bridge and the other at Insurgentes/Article 39 (southeast of Grandalia/Rio Grande Mall) - an area that some papers mistakenly refer to as upscale - but I'd call more middle class by Juarez standards.

translated: The Chihuahua state government condemned the killings of three people linked to the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez, and reported that as a hypothesis attackers belong to the gang "The Aztecs" and the group's "La Linea."
"La Linea"= local cops working as enforcers for the Juarez Cartel.

Then I would wonder why -- why does La Linea want to bring the US government into this? It must be that they fear the loss of control over Juarez that much that they now want the US to go in there and run out the other cartels?

I suppose if they risk having their supply routes cut off anyway by their enemy cartels, they might want them cut off for everyone.

Things feel a bit strange today here in El Paso.

The husband of the employee (both dead) was an El Paso County Detention officer.

It's not a new level, it's the same, no law & order. And if you go there everyone looks at everyone suspiciously. Horrible atmosphere.

Today's EP Times says that the USA is "donating" $15 million to Juarez's mayor to help "fight violence." Gotta wonder what that will amount to después de la mordedura? Mayor plans to use it to buy GPS radios??? Those should be really handy to the cartels for planning smuggling routes.

You're so right - it's like flushing money down the toilet at this point.

CLOSE THE BORDER NOW!!! ............................. Er, no just kidding.

But that is the typical response you would see to the complicated problem that is the violence in Mexico around these parts of the country.
